On the second Sunday of Lent the Gospel reading proclaims the story of Jesus’ Transfiguration. Jesus takes three of his disciples—Peter, James, and John—to a high mountain and there He is Transfigured. We hear Jesus instruct the disciples to keep secret what they have seen until after the Son of Man has risen from the dead. The disciples’ confusion continues as they wonder what Jesus means by rising from the dead. The disciples cannot possibly understand Jesus’ Transfiguration until they also witness his passion and death. We hear the story of Jesus’ Transfiguration early in Lent, but we have the benefit of hindsight. In our hearing of it, we anticipate Jesus’ Resurrection, even as we prepare to remember Jesus’ passion and death. We are challenged by this reading to question what it means to be a disciple. We have a wonderful opportunity during Lent to stop, reflect and renew our commitment as disciples of Jesus.

Many of our Catechists begin the year of teaching this past and coming week. We pray for our Catechists and for all the children they teach and their families.

We welcome Belinda and Gabrielle to the Catechist Ministry this year. Thank you for volunteering. Wishing you many blessings in the year ahead.

Our Catechists will meet for morning tea on Wednesday 7 March at 10.30am at Belrose Hotel.

The CCD Ministry Induction is being held from Friday 23 February to Friday 16 March (4 Fridays) at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Centre. Please register if you would like to join any of the courses. More information in the Connections Magazine.

We have a new logo in Broken Bay Diocese CCD. This is a contemporary logo with clean lines and sets the tone for our work in today’s modern world.

There are 3 colours used in the Logo, the aqua symbolises the waterways and beaches of the Central Coast, the yellow represents the sand of the Northern Beaches and the green pick up the leafy northern suburbs and the mountain regions of the diocese.

We are inspired by the Holy Spirit and connected in Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth and at the centre of our lives and ministry.

In this week’s Second session of preparation for Reconciliation the children are learning about choices and how the choices we make effect ourselves, others and our relationship with God.

I can choose to love, to be like Jesus, kind, compassionate, prayerful. Sadly sometimes I choose not to love. When I choose not to love I sin. However the good news is that when I sin, God always forgives me when I say sorry.

Mission of the Parish

The fundamental vocation and mission of the Parish is to
“be a place in the world community of believers, to gather together as a sign and instrument of the vocation of all to communion, in a word, to be a house of welcome and a place of service to all.” (Pope John-Paul 11)  The religious dimension of education is one way in which this mission is carried out.   The Parish has a responsibility to assist parents in providing a Catholic education for their children according to their circumstances.  For those who cannot or do not attend Catholic schools, SRE or Scripture as it is popularly known, provides a religious dimension in State schooling which contributes to a Catholic formation.   Can you join the Catechist Ministry?  We have two classes without a Catechist this year.   Can you help?   Please call Fran on 9451 5097 or email
